MIT is committed to responsible and ethical conduct in the classroom, the workplace and the laboratory. This commitment is reflected in many of MIT's policies and procedures. Those policies and procedures serve the dual purposes of delineating MIT's core values and promoting conformance to applicable laws and regulations.

MIT believes that it is important for members of the MIT community to be aware of these policies and procedures and for individuals and organizations outside of the MIT community to know of MIT's dedication to responsible and ethical practices and conduct. This site brings together MIT's policies and procedures that, individually and taken as a whole, embody such commitment, and it serves as MIT's Code of Business Ethics and Conduct under federal law.

No policy can foresee every situation in which a question about ethical or business conduct will arise. If you have questions, require resources or advice or have observed or suspect violations of MIT policy, you are encouraged to contact any of the following offices:

MIT Values Statement

Responding to calls from the community that MIT would benefit from having a statement of shared values, in December 2020 the Institute charged the MIT Values Statement Committee to develop one through broad consultation across the MIT community. On April 12, 2022, President Rafael Reif, Provost Cynthia Barnhart and Chancellor Melissa Nobles shared the values statement with the community, with their strong endorsement.
